KUSC Classical Kids Discovery Day at Plaza de la Raza is a remarkable opportunity for children to step into the world of live classical music in a fun and approachable way. The iconic plaza and its surrounding classrooms will house wall-to-wall, kid-friendly live classical music and dance. Among the many fun activities, attendees can visit a violin showcase presented by the Los Angeles Philharmonic Affiliates and unleash their creativity by crafting and decorating their own violins. Kids can also take a shot at the radio mic at the always popular “Be a DJ” booth alongside beloved KUSC on-air hosts Alan Chapman, Jennifer Miller Hammel, Brisa Siegel, Solomon Reynolds, and Suraj Partha. Activities also include “Guitar Discovery” with LA’s famed McCabe’s Guitar Shop, arts and crafts with Plaza de la Raza teachers, instrument-building with Neighborhood Music School, and a ton of surprises throughout the day.

Families will also enjoy stellar performances from partners such as the Los Angeles Opera, the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles (YOLA), the East Los Angeles-based Neighborhood Music School, Plaza de la Raza’s own dance troupes Danza Azteca and Folklor Pasión Mexicana de Los Angeles, and the USC Thornton School of Music.

“We are thrilled to welcome our neighbors Classical California KUSC to the historic Plaza De La Raza campus for this year's Kids Discovery Day" says Plaza De La Raza's Executive Director Maria Jimenez-Torres. "Our shared mission of improving the lives of young people through music and the performing arts makes this partnership a long-awaited moment for the community at large. We anticipate that this event will be a pivotal first introduction to the magic of classical music, the arts in general,  and their endless educational benefits for many families and young Angelenos.”

Plaza de la Raza, fondly known as "Place of the People," has been a cultural oasis for the Eastside neighborhoods of Los Angeles since 1970, providing year-round arts education programs, performances, festivals, and an art gallery for the enrichment of the community.
